New FTC Guidelines and Your Money Making Online Marketing Business

On December 1, 2009, The FTC published new guidelines which affect all money making online marketing businesses. How difficult are these guidelines to follow and what must we all do to make sure we comply?

First of all no doubt these guidelines will slow most of us down a little, but they aren’t necessarily bad.  Certainly, they are meant to protect the consumer from the  overdone hype and wild advertisers’ claims that cannot be substantiated. We all know that online marketers seem to have a tendency to do just that.

So what  do these guidelines really do.  First and foremost there is mandatory disclosure of any material connection between yourself and any affiliate product you are recommending. Many of our colleagues don’t like this, but it will no longer be legal to make a recommendation sound unbiased when it is not. It even goes further in that you must disclose the fact that you rare promoting a product you have received for free.

A result of this is a notable reduction in fake blogs and blogs with raving consumer reviews when really the owner is really only reporting affiliate sales.  Under the new rules it is not legal to play on a customer’s inexperience in this way.

Of course, you also need to be careful of people trying to take advantage of the concern or maybe even fear of internet marketers in regard to these rules. Innumerable programs are cropping up to guide you through the new maze.  Some of this, of course,is legitimate, but also, some comes from unqualified sources.  You need to be careful that anyone you contract to help you is qualified to do so.

And no one can insure compliance or protection.  You need to understand the guidelines, and if you have any doubts about a marketing program you are undertaking, be sure to get quality advice before you go public with it.

The FTC is serious and not to be taken lightly.  If you want to succeed in your online money making marketing business, you need to make sure you are operating within the FTC guidelines.

Growing Your Money Making Online Business

You’ve got your money making online business started.  Now you want to grow it into something that will earn you a real income. How can you do it?

Well, most things you read give you a couple of different ideas on this.  Two of the best ideas are affiliate marketing selling someone else’s product and buying your own reprint rights product and selling it on ebay or Craig’s list.  Also, you can buy and sell stuff on ebay or you can sell drop ship stuff as an affiliate of Amazon or similar vendors.  All of these can help you build your money making online business.  It also depends on where you have started.

But let’s be honest.

You have certainly heard of one hit wonders.  Usually, a rock band that really makes it big with one song.  Then when its popularity fades, they’re never heard of again.

making money online business can be the same.  When you first start out, your focus is on getting started and trying to be profitable quickly.  It makes good sense as a start up plan.  But once you get off the ground, you need to change your focus.  You need to stop thinking about the quick buck and start thinking about growing your money making business business so that it will build your income steadily over the long term.

There are a lot of steps you can take to build your long term money making business, but the first one to take is through back end selling.

Your back end consists of the additional sale or sales that you make after or maybe at the same time you sell your initial product.  Your back end is where your making money online business will make the most money in the long run.  So how does this all work?

To understand this you need to consider your marketing program as a sales funnel.  You pour a lot of stuff into the funnel’s big opening at the top, and it comes out of the smaller opening at the bottom.  But a sales funnel has a lot of leaks.  Not everything comes out the bottom.

Think of the first product you sell to a new buyer as the entry point to your funnel.  You price it relatively low, so lots of people buy it.  That’s the wide end of the funnel.

What you want to do is to migrate those buyers to more expensive products so you can make more money on each repeat sale to those customers.  Along the way you can also sell your customer additional products at the same or similar prices at any level of your funnel.

Not every customer will migrate all the way to the most expensive product you sell, and some who do will only buy one of your most expensive products instead of buying them all.  That’s why you can think of your funnel as having leaks.  Not every customer who enters it makes it all the way to the bottom.

But the funnel concept give you a nice picture of what you are trying to do.  You want to sell more products to exiting customers and migrate as many of those customers as possible to more expensive product over time.

Your funnel has different levels, where you sell different products at different price points.  So your initial sale is just the beginning.  If you are going to build a real money making online business, you need to develop your back end sales.  When you’ve done that, you’ve began to build a serious long term money making online business.

Distraction Management For Your Money Making Online Business

You have just started your new money making online business.  You, of course, are doing this working at home.  Nothing to it, you think.  If you’re lucky enough to have a room you can use as your office, all you have to do is shut the door and you’ll be able to work as long as you wish undisturbed.  If like most of us, you have a corner someplace in your house for your office, it’s a bit more difficult, but you figure that you just tell everyone not to bother you and you’ll be fine.  However, the reality may be something very different.  Even having your office in a room where you can close the door, you find the distractions are frequent and often long.  This is just your first problem.

Unfortunately, the distractions are not just from the outside of your office.  Your money making online business is tied closely to the internet.  Today, while checking your emails, you find a message from a friend, and, of course, you have to respond.  And you must check your other emails.  Some of that is business related, but a lot is not.  That is more time spent away from money making online.  And as yet, I have not mentioned surfing the internet.  You start with the plan, let’s say, to check  your key words on Google or to work on an ad you have on adwords or write a blog.  The next thing that you know you are looking up all kinds of things that you are curious about.  Does any of this sound familiar?  If not, you are truly dedicated, but most of us find ourselves distracted from time too time by these things.  So what can you do about it?

First of all don’t beat yourself up.  Some breaks from the grind are necessary.  But, you need to control them.  Start by planning in advance what your work schedule will be.  You can adjust it later, but have a planned work period.  Then make a list of the activities you are planning to do at least in broad categories.  As you go through this work period, note how much time you spend on each category, and if you get distracted, note what the distraction was and how much time you spent on it.  Finally, consider how much in dollars each activity and distraction is worth to you.  Once you’ve put a dollar value to your time, it will be easy to concentrate on the important money making activities, and reduce your time on the less important ones.

This will also help into step two, which is organizing your time based on the activities you find are the most important for making money online and worth the most to you.  Notice we are talking about the most important activities, not maybe the most fun.  Every business or job requires activities that we would rather put off or not do.  If we could, we would pay someone else to do them.  But even then, you cannot escape some jobs that you don’t like, which only you can do.  And a money making online business is no different.  So list your activities in order of importance to you so you can set your priorities.

The final step by now is obvious.  At the end of each day spend fifteen minutes to prepare your work pan for the following day.  Break it into Group A and Group B.  Group A, which includes the most urgent money making online activities, must be completed before you start on Group B.  This approach will save you time when you sit down at your desk the following day so you can dive right into the Group that needs first attention.

You probably will say that all this is just common sense, and you will be correct.   But you need to identify the problem first before you can solve it.  Then common sense can put you on your way.

Managing distraction does not make the days shorter, but it does make it possible to take control of your time.  It will help you maximize your productivity and get the most out of your time; one of your most priceless and irreplaceable assets.  And it certainly will help you to become more successfulon your new money making online business.

Sign over to the right and get my free ebook.  It will answer all of your questions.  I recommend The Affiliate Code as the best affiliate program around, but it you want to check out some others, go to Working For Our Future and you’ll findthree other great ones.

How Often Should You Post To Your Money Making Blog?

Why do you post on your money making blog in the first place?  Maybe you just like to write. Maybe you have so much stuff in your head that you need to toss it out.  Writing is obviously a good way to do that. But if you are like most of us, writing a post takes time away from other things that you would like to be doing to further your money making business so it can be a bit of an annoyance.  You are working away on one of your other projects, and you think, “Nuts, I haven’t posted on my blog for a while, I’d better put something together and get it posted”.

So back to the original question. How often should you post on your blog?  Obviously, there is no one answer nor one that is right for everyone.  So let’s discuss the question.

The first extreme is to post rarely, let’s say once a month. My opinion is that posting once a month is probably on the edge.  It is probably the least amount of posting you can get away with. If you are only posting once a month, your followers may well decide that you are not very interested in your blog and quit paying visits to it.  That is one aspect.  However, what is probably worse is that the search engines will draw the same inference and your blog may fall far down in the rankings. My conclusion is that you need to post more often.

The other extreme that I have heard, and I have one ebook author who recommends it is that you post several times a day. The theory is that it doesn’t matter much what you write (or how good it is), but the search engines will catch the activity and your blog will go to the top of the rankings. My problem is with the idea that what you write doesn’t matter. I do agree that you shouldn’t overwork the editing, but I believe you want your posts to be clearly written about an interesting topic with no misspelled words and reasonably good punctuation.  At least I can’t write several articles a day that meet that requirement. So for me to write more than one post a day is a stretch.

So where do I come down.  I believe that if you post at least every other day you will meet your goals reasonably well.  You will have enough activity for the search engines to give you a reasonable ranking, and your followers will feel they can come to your blog a couple of times a week and find new content that they will appreciate.

So you need to make your own decision, but if you post every other day your blog will  be a key element in your online money making business and successful.

Viral Marketing For Your Online Money Making Business – Part 1

Viral marketing as a way to enhance your online money making business is hot these days. The way it spreads a marketing message can be very effective. The idea of Internet viral marketing is to have your marketing message spread like a virus, as the name implies.

There are many well-known ways of creating a buzz through internet viral marketing. One can utilize site links, referral programs and other viral marketing techniques to reach his target audience. It a great idea to start your online marketing business with the viral marketing concept in mind.  To do this you need to use the right techniques.

This article is part one of several articles on some of the viral marketing techniques that are available on the Internet.  Stay tuned over the coming week to get my list of viral techniques, which by the way is not complete.  Every day new viral marketing ideas are found so no list will ever by complete.

Here is the first part of my list of viral techniques which can be effective in spreading a marketing message:

Create an award

Awards catch attention. When someone or something is given an award, it creates buzz in the target audience. You set up an award to attract attention and the event will spread your marketing message.

Distributing free software

Everybody loves freebies! If you are competent in creating software programs for different applications, you can use them as marketing tools.  You must make sure, though, that the software contains some kind of advertisement containing your marketing message.

Providing free email accounts

This is the technique that was employed by hotmail when it initially started. Every person who signed up for their free email account got it along with the marketing message. This simple idea turned hotmail into a craze and its owners into millionaires. Although doing the same thing today may not emulate the results which were generated by hotmail, it is still an effective way of spreading your marketing message.

Providing free web space

Again, freebies are loved by everyone. If one has the capability to give free web space to customers, it can help you spread your message. This can be effective marketing since people will be attracted by the free web space offer. You can then insist on having your logo included in the space being used by the person using your site.

Here ends part one of the viral marketing techniques for your online money making business. In a day or so I’ll post part two.

By the way if you want to read more on starting your online money making business, sign up on the right and get my free ebook, Make A Million Online System.  It explains in detail the above ideas plus gives you many more.  And if you want to check out affiliate programs, go to my website, Working For Our Future, and get into one of the three affiliate programs that I am promoting.  And you’ll be off and running .

4 Tips To Building Readership For Your Online Money Making Blog

What is the point of having a blog for your Online Money Making Business? To draw readers, of course. Whatever you are selling, you want as large a readership as possible. There are a number of ways to increase the readership of your blog. Here are four tips to increase your blog readership that are easy to do and will definitely pay off for you.

First of all, you want to increase the number of pages each reader is seeing. You don’t want to be judged only on your last post, but rather on the whole of your work. To that end, try highlighting related posts within your blog. At the end of an article, highlight posts that may be of interest to those who like the current post. Most blog platforms are fitted with plug-ins that will help you with this, but if yours is not, then at least list the links to other pages manually. A similar idea is to highlight the related posts within the content of your post. If you are talking about a subject you have discussed before, link off of one of the keywords into the past post that is related. Make sure you don’t overdo this, however, and ruin the flow of your post.

A second tip for increasing your blog readership is to do a series. A series is a great way to keep a reader coming back again and again. If you have a topic you genuinely think you should handle over a period of time, then a series can really help your overall readership. If you are curious as to whether or not a series is working for your blog, then check posts. See if readers are posting through the series to see if they are following you. If they are, then your series is a success and you are  helping your blog readership. In addition, if you are linking back, you can get readers looking at multiple posts even after you are done with the series.

Another way to increase readership is to be a little “controversial”. You can try putting excerpts on the front page of your blog from certain posts. Many people claim it is just a way to get more hits on your site. The truth is that extra hits are a side benefit of it, but the real value is that it can make your site more engaging. By adding excerpts to the front page you can manage the front and keep it fresh while also teasing those who get that far into reading more than just your most recent blog post. This will encourage a prospective reader to explore your blog site a little more than they may have normally. Again, you want to be judged by the whole of your work, or at least by more than just by your last post and this will do that. If your writing is up to par, then, you will see a rise in your readership.

Finally, if you really want to build and increase readership, you have to have good quality content. It should be useful, original, and interesting to your target audience as well as keeping them wanting more of the same. The more you raise the quality of your blog’s content, the more you will see your membership, readership, and page hits go up. People know what they like and they like quality for the most part. Giving the readers what they are after is probably the best way possible to increase your blog readership.

Having a blog can not only be fun, but if you are doing it right, can also be profitable. Either way, though, you want to maintain and increase a following, or readership. There are as many tips out there to increase blog readership as there are blogs, but to really get things going, consider using these four tips. Follow them and you will see your readership grow along with your online money making business.

What Traffic Analytics Can Tell You About Your Online Money Making Business

Your Online Money Making Business can use tactics like those used in the brick-and-mortar world.  These stores often change displays, move goods around, and put impulse items beside checkouts. The reason behind these changes is they’re analyzing customer traffic and studying behavioral patterns to understand how consumers shop. As an online retailer, you need to study your customer traffic as well in order to increase sales of your online money making business.

Listen: Your Customers Are Talking

There are a number of web traffic analytics companies, such as http://OneStat.com and http://StatCounter.com, that analyze your customers’ shopping patterns. They follow your customers’ clicks to and through your web pages and provide you with valuable info on how your customers experience your website:

1. You see which keywords bring you, not only the most hits, but also the highest conversion rates. People often find the generic words they use bring them a great deal of traffic, but that traffic averages a shorter stay on the site. The longer people spend on your site, the more likely they are to buy something. Analyzing that data allows you to see which keywords are effective for you.

2. You see the average amount of time users spend on your site. Due to latent conversion, this is a good indicator of how business will be in the coming months. If your users are taking their time, looking at things carefully, that tells you they’re really interested and will likely come back to complete the transaction.

3. You see if your traffic is leaving as soon as they hit your landing page, you know you have a problem. As soon as users get there, you want to reinforce to them that they’re in the right place. Says John Marshall, founder and CEO of http://ClickTracks.com, “Make sure the keyword the user clicked is associated with, and strongly connected to the copy in that landing page, and throughout the experience. Just paying attention to that could probably get you a 20% to 50% improvement in your conversion rate.”

4. You see where people are exiting your site. This is especially important when you have customers leaving in the middle of checkout. If you see a high rate of users, with full shopping carts, leaving on a particular page, you can pinpoint what is costing you sales:

- If they’re exiting on the page where you explain shipping costs, you might consider whether your shipping costs are higher than your competitors.

- If they’re leaving halfway through filling out the buyer’s information, you might consider that your buyer questionnaire is too long.

Web analytics puts you in a position to see what is working on your website and what isn’t. It is a way to see where you need to make changes and then measure how effective those changes are.

Using web analytics can help you make adjustments to your website that will insure your success as an online money making marketer.

Facebook: $750 Mil in Hand Worth More than $2Bil in Sky

Facebook

It came up conversationally, but not many marketers around are using Facebook yet. It is kind of funny that it has been so slow to catch on.  The subject of Facebook.com is an interesting one that is worth a closer look.

Without question 2005 was the year of MySpace.  Before Rupert Murdoch’s $580 million social networking venture took the interactive world by storm, it is difficult to believe that even the most optimistic of the billionaire’s lackeys would have predicted that a new acquisition would more than quadruple its reach within a matter of months.  With 23.5 billion page views by February, MySpace became the second most trafficked site on the Internet.

Murdoch’s success naturally generated buying interest in anything deemed online social networking.  One proposed deal in March 2006, was Viacom’s unsuccessful $750 million bid for Facebook.com, the phenomenon started by wunderkind Mark Zuckerberg.  After Facebook.com declined the offer, its founders pegged Facebook.com’s worth at two billion dollars.  Perhaps the brilliant sparks from MySpace’s success has blinded Facebook.com to the flip side reality of Friendster’s paradise lost.  There is a real chance Facebook won’t see an offer this generous again.

Facebook.com is essentially an online medium of communication for college students and high schoolers.  For its valued reach Zuckerberg and his crew of Harvard dropouts (taking their cue from Bill Gates, no doubt) must be looking for Google-sized compensation, but the two billion dollar figure is arbitrary and difficult to justify.  Perhaps Facebook is emboldened by their own wise decision in not selling to Yahoo for $15 million in 2004.

Zuckerberg was likely trying to establish a market value for his creation, not an unwise move on the face of things.  However, Viacom’s offer was not by any stretch of the imagination pocket change and the number of entities that can and will double the bid Facebook already got is finite.

Facebook’s traffic numbers, as referenced on Alexa.com, during the last three months are not encouraging; that is, if the goal is to fish for more and greater buyout bids.  The numbers actually have trended downward since March, anathema for enticing hyper bidding growth.  These diminishing statistics can be at least partially attributed to the cyclical nature of the school year since Facebook, after all, is geared towards the college student.  It doesn’t matter how great the product is, it won’t keep students from doing their own thing during summer vacation and this yearly dip is potentially damaging.

Seeing as how fast online fads can expand and contract in social networking as we’ve seen in its short time span, what if the numbers don’t come back?  What if something new pops up in two months that steals Facebook’s thunder?  (And, again, MySpace’s success serves as good reason why this thunder is worth stealing.)

Facebook.com’s success has also been marred with some controversy that could taint its popularity with students.  At Syracuse University a flap over freedom of expression ensued when a Facebook.com group went overboard in critiquing a student teacher and ended up with expulsions from the class and social suspension before three students transferred.  After Penn State’s football team beat Ohio State this year students rushed the field and made a ruckus.  Overwhelmed police made only two arrests that day, but later in the week they logged onto Facebook.com and, like Canadian Mounties who always get their man, got plenty of names and faces and photos from the info posted by students about their on-field shenanigans.  Kids talk and these stories spread like wildfire, which may affect Facebook.com negatively and they can’t control misuse of their product and the negative repercussions that come from it.

The future is promising for the social networking business space and I don’t believe Facebook.com is doomed.  Still, given the nature of short-lived and over-hyped dotcoms, Facebook may have reached their growth climax this school year, with possibility for expansion and success only contingent on acquisition.  Time may not be on their side because as the pages of the calendar turn there will doubtlessly be new fads and trends that will threaten to make something else the “Next Big Thing” at Facebook.com’s expense.   The clock is ticking.

It’s not facebook, but maybe next best thing. Make Your Website Mean and Lean For Your Online Money Making Business

simplicity-web

You are in the process of designing a new website for your online money making business. As you start to plan your site, you should consider that in this day and age everyone is in hurry.  You can see it at the check out counters where everyone looks for the shortest line and even tries to use the express check out when they have more than the minimum number of items.  On top of that we now have instant messaging and all kinds of do-it-now technology.  These products always seem to be the latest rage in this online world.

This mentality carries over to surfing the internet. Recent studies on internet usage have shown the users get unhappy when a site doesn’t completely load with ten seconds and more that half will leave the site if it isn’t completely loaded with fifteen seconds. This gives an idea of how demanding the current internet surfer is these days.

You might think that with broadband access as common as it is, there should no longer be a problem with downloading times.  However, currently only three out of ten users have high speed access.  The majority of internet surfers are still using dial up modems.  For these surfers web pages with excessive graphics and other over done design can easily lose the interest of a surfer and along with it the opportunity to sell products.

So here are some tips on how to make your online money making website mean, lean and fast to download.

1. Use simple and lean graphics.

Graphics take time to load. However, since graphics add class and attractiveness to a site’s appearance, some graphics are necessary.  But you can keep the loading time down by specifying the height and width attributes of your images. This permits the user’s browser to map the page’s layout while the images are being loaded.

If you must have large images in your content, use a thumbnail link to the bigger version of the image. This allows the user to view the full scale image only by clicking on the thumbnail if he wants to see it.

Another neat solution is to use software the cuts up large graphic files into small pieces that are put back together by using a table. Software like PictureDicer (by ShoeString) or Online Image Splitter does that and generates HTML code for a table tag.  However, you should make sure to reduce 256 color images to 8 bit colors before processing the picture.  Actually, it is always a good idea to keep your color palette at a minimum.  If you find that your site has load problems, reduce the number of colors in you palette and see if that doesn’t solve the problem.

2. Cut down on the flash intros.

These intros may look great, but they often take forever to load. So if a flash intro is at the front door of your website, you could be losing a substantial number of visitors who quit your site when they find it is taking too long to load.

You should also realize that search engines are unable to index content on flash format.  So if you are using flash intros, search engines may not be giving you much value for your website when ranking it.

3. Have an ideal page size.

Experts differ, but if you keep your file size between 30 and 50KB including everything, you should do fine and your website should load fairly quickly.

4. Your pages should be shallow as possible.

Your users don’t want to go a number of clicks and links to find the page they want to read. It’s a question of organization.  Make sure that any page can be reached with a maximum of two clicks.

It helps if your pages are kept within two levels from the home page.  If a site grows to the point that is not possible, you need to reorganize your site.  You may have to have an archive page where reference pages can be accessed by someone interested in them without delaying accessibility of the current content.

Your visitors will appreciate that you have made an effort to help them navigate your site and that you value their time.  As a result, they may stay longer on your site to read more of your story. It also can enhance your company’s brand showing you are efficient and helpful to your readers.

By paying attention to providing a mean and lean site rather than a fancy, showy site with little content will pay big dividends in your business.  Your customers will really appreciate you and your company and give you a big boost in your online money making business.

Making Your Website Optimum to Make Money Online

Making Your Website Optimum to Make Money Online - Marketing Our Visions Will Show You The Way

In order to make money online you want to optimize your web site.  What does this mean and how do you accomplish that?

First of all you need to appreciate that there is no one optimum web site.  What makes an optimum web site depends on your point of view.  A web site a designer may feel is optimum a user may feel is awkward and difficult to navigate.  Even two designers may not agree because of personal likes and dislikes of designs and functionality.

So let’s accept the fact that there is no one optimum web site to make money online, and look at the approach you need to take and the elements you need to include or not include when designing or having your web site designed in order for it to approach optimum.

1. Don’t be afraid of white backgrounds.  The most effective web designs use white backgrounds and very clean lines so as not to distract the reader from the sales message of your site.

2. Do not overdo pictures and images.  Use them sparingly.  Pictures and images can spice up a site, but when overdone they slow down the load of your site to the reader’s computer and are annoying.  After you have your site designed, check out the loading time, to make sure it loads reasonably rapidly.  If not, cut out a picture or two and recheck it, until you are satisfied that it is not too slow.  By the way, if possible do this check on a small less powerful computer.  Not everyone has a computer like yours.

3. Make navigation of your site simple and straight forward so your reader will find the content he is looking for easily. You must remember that all users are not computer savvy, so the easier your site is to navigate the better.

4. This really relates to navigation, but make sure your site is built on rudimentary rules of web design like having clear buttons, describing links accurately and displaying links in the conventional blue.  This will make sure that users have the least amount of trouble accessing different pages of your site.

An optimum web site brings together a classy look with easy navigation.  When a user open up your site, their first impression should be “Wow!  What a great site. And then when they start to work their way around your site, they should find it easy to navigate to find what they are looking for.

These elements are the technical aspects of your web site.  When you have these covered, you must make sure that your content of your site is of top notch quality.  It has to be well written and without grammatical or spelling errors.  It is a question of balance.  You want to spell out your complete sales pitch, but you want to be concise and not overdo it.  So keep in mind that for you to be successful and make money online you need balance.  It’s the secret of life.

Follow these simple ideas and your web site will come as close to optimum as possible and help you achieve your goals in your goals to make money online.

If you sign into the form on the right, you will be able to download my free ebook, Making a Million Online System.  If you are more into affiliate programs, go to Working For Our Future and read about  three terrific ways to make a ton of money.
