Return On Investment - Marketing Our Visions Will Show You How I recently read an article on using ROI or Return On Investment in your money making online business. The author began by stating that ROI is the basis for determining profit for virtually any business. He goes on to say that ROI is also the kind of topic marketing consultants like to over complicate and make a big dramatic deal out of. In fact the whole concept is incredibly straight forward and easy to apply. Your ROI is simply what you can expect to gain from a potential endeavor expressed as a percentage, and you make this determination by comparing your net profits after all expenses you expect to earn from a project against your investment cost to get into it.

Many people assume that ROI is only for large companies. However, even a one-man show can use the ROI calculation to decide which projects are worth pursuing. You have finite time and resources so using ROI provides a means to prioritize projects and using what companies call a hurdle rate, you can quickly decide whether to go forward with a project or not. In essence using ROI can insure that you’ll put your resources where you forecast your return will be highest and therefor help you maximize your income.

RIO used properly can be very helpful to you to achieve the greatest return from your resources. Let’s discuss ROI in two parts. The first is the calculation of ROI. Second are some aspects of it that I think you need to keep in mind when using it.

In regard to the calculation the author of the article shows several examples, which I don’t entirely agree with. However, to save time, here’s how I recommend you calculate ROI.

Let’s say you have a hypothetical investment cost to purchase an ebook of $150. You estimate you can sell 10 copies for a profit of $5 a copy after all selling and other expenses. So your profit will be $50 and your ROI 33 and 1/3%,. ($50 divided by $150 x 100). Over simplified to be sure!

You will calculate ROI for all projects that you have in front of you, and proceed with those that yield the highest ROI and pass whatever you consider your hurdle rate. Your hurdle rate is an arbitrary minimum ROI you feel you need in order to make an investment.

Calculating ROI or Return On Investment is certainly not a new idea to evaluate how profitable you estimate a project will be. Most companies use ROI as a way to rank their profitable investment projects in order to decide which ones meet their hurdle rate and rank those that do. It makes sense to make this calculation when you are talking about significant investment decisions. Clearly, in calculating ROI making a good forecast of your sales revenue for the product is fairly difficult and requires the most care . You can decide on the sale price based on your assessment of market conditions, but how many ebooks are you going to sell at that price? You would base it on past experience and past sales of similar products. You probably would consider a range of possibilities to see if the worst case would still give you a reasonable ROI.

This is how you should use ROI. It is a tool for forecasting or estimating your profit on a new project. It can help you decide whether to buy an ebook or start working on a new system. It can help you decide whether to market a product or not. And after your product is on the market it can help you evaluate whether your product has been profitable or not.

One last consideration is that ROI is a percentage. To state the obvious you can have a number of projects with wonderful ROI’s, but if the total profits don’t add up to acceptable total net income, you can’t live on it. You might want to accept a much lower ROI on a project if it generated enough profit to live on.

So you need to understand that ROI is a tool for decision making. You can also use it to evaluate how you did after the fact, but that only has value for you in comparing the past periods of time to see if you are improving your money making online business.

New FTC Guidelines and Your Money Making Online Marketing Business

On December 1, 2009, The FTC published new guidelines which affect all money making online marketing businesses. How difficult are these guidelines to follow and what must we all do to make sure we comply?

First of all no doubt these guidelines will slow most of us down a little, but they aren’t necessarily bad. Certainly, they are meant to protect the consumer from the overdone hype and wild advertisers’ claims that cannot be substantiated. We all know that online marketers seem to have a tendency to do just that.

So what do these guidelines really do. First and foremost there is mandatory disclosure of any material connection between yourself and any affiliate product you are recommending. Many of our colleagues don’t like this, but it will no longer be legal to make a recommendation sound unbiased when it is not. It even goes further in that you must disclose the fact that you rare promoting a product you have received for free.

A result of this is a notable reduction in fake blogs and blogs with raving consumer reviews when really the owner is really only reporting affiliate sales. Under the new rules it is not legal to play on a customer’s inexperience in this way.

Of course, you also need to be careful of people trying to take advantage of the concern or maybe even fear of internet marketers in regard to these rules. Innumerable programs are cropping up to guide you through the new maze. Some of this, of course,is legitimate, but also, some comes from unqualified sources. You need to be careful that anyone you contract to help you is qualified to do so.

And no one can insure compliance or protection. You need to understand the guidelines, and if you have any doubts about a marketing program you are undertaking, be sure to get quality advice before you go public with it.

Find an Online Money Making Product in 5 Minutes

I would think that everyone who is trying to set up his or her online money making business knows how to find a profitable product quickly and easily. However, I read something the other day, which made me wonder whether some people who are just getting involved in an online money making business might find some help useful.

What should you consider to be a profitable product?

You all know that to start you online money making business you need to set up a landing page. But for it to work you need a profitable product. Many people think that you define a profitable product by the size of the commission. Obviously, a large commission is nice, but it is not the most important aspect of the product. Far more important is the conversion rate of the product.

There are many products that convert well, but probably the quickest and easiest to find are affiliate products. And the quickest and easiest place to find affiliate products is www.clickbank.com. In the clickbank market place are listed ebooks, membership sites and video courses all for sale or set up for you to sell. If you are representing the product owner, each time you sell his product, your commission is automatically deposited into your account. Once you earn over $100, your earnings will be deposited into your own bank account twice a month.

Using Clickbank.

If you’re not registered for clickbank, you sign up at http://www.clickbank.com. The instructions are easy to follow, but be careful when you put in a nickname or ID. Once you have entered one, you cannot change it. It is probably better to have a nickname related to you own name. If you have one related to your niche, you may not be happy with it if you want to market in another niche, but you’d be stuck with it.

Search the marketplace.

Open the marketplace and search using your key word niche. This will bring up a list of products in that niche.

Look through the list for the products that have the highest popularity and gravity and pick out three of four. If you see a number of products in your niche this is good because it means that there is a demand for your niche.

Sort your list of products by popularity and gravity.

Obviously, the most popular are getting the most sales. Gravity is a calculation made by Clickbank which indicates which products are getting more sales by affiliates. In other words a high gravity means that a relatively high number of affiliates are having success selling that product. High gravity also means that a product has good momentum and converts well for affiliate traffic.

Ideally you want a product with both a high gravity and high popularity, but you want to make sure the gravity is at least 30. When it gets close to 100, it should be as close to a guarantee that it will sell well as you can get.

Note the % referred number.

The % referred number is the percentage of product sales which come from affiliates instead of direct sales. A high referred percentage usually means that you’ll have a better chance of making money with the product.

When you go through this exercise and end up with several products you want to promote, you then select one or two to start with in you campaign keeping the others in reserve for later. The important next step is to track the success of each of your products. You may want to alternate products and see which ones work the best. Also, you don’t want to fall in love with a product and hang on to it when it is no longer converting for you. It’s easy to do, but if you’re going to be successful in your online money making business, you need to actively test your products and only promote those that are really successful for you.

Linking with other websites can be used as a viral marketing tool. There are many people who are doing this right now.

Free screen savers

In using screen savers, one should have a general theme so that people can identify with them.

This simple idea turned hotmail into a craze and its owners into millionaires. Although doing the same thing today may not emulate the results which were generated by hotmail, it is still an effective way of spreading your marketing message.

Providing free web space

Again, freebies are loved by everyone. If one has the capability to give free web space to customers, it can help you spread your message. This can be effective marketing since people will be attracted by the free web space offer. You can then insist on having your logo included in the space being used by the person using your site.

In other words, if you are looking to start an online business, choose an industry or niche that you are familiar with. By doing this you will ensure yourself of knowing where to start, and how to handle problems as they arise. Of course, it is possible to run a successful internet business even if you do not have past experience. You will just want to make sure that you do your homework and learn as much as you can about your adopted business before starting. This way you will have some background information on the industry instead of simply going into the venture blind.

2. Make sure that you are organized from the very start. The most successful online money making businesses are ones that have quality business and marketing plans in place from the start. Having these will allow you to follow your plans day by day so by so that you do not get lost. It is hard to be successful in anything if you do not know where you are trying to go. A business plan will give you an idea on how you want your company to progress. Your marketing plan will direct you on how to grow your company. These are two things that are synonymous with every successful online money making business.

3. Never feel hesitant to ask for help if you are having a rough time. Making Your Website Optimum to Make Money Online

In order to make money online you want to optimize your web site. What does this mean and how do you accomplish that?

First of all you need to appreciate that there is no one optimum web site. What makes an optimum web site depends on your point of view. A web site a designer may feel is optimum a user may feel is awkward and difficult to navigate. Even two designers may not agree because of personal likes and dislikes of designs and functionality.

So let’s accept the fact that there is no one optimum web site to make money online, and look at the approach you need to take and the elements you need to include or not include when designing or having your web site designed in order for it to approach optimum.

1. Don’t be afraid of white backgrounds. The most effective web designs use white backgrounds and very clean lines so as not to distract the reader from the sales message of your site.

2. Do not overdo pictures and images. Use them sparingly. Pictures and images can spice up a site, but when overdone they slow down the load of your site to the reader’s computer and are annoying. After you have your site designed, check out the loading time, to make sure it loads reasonably rapidly. If not, cut out a picture or two and recheck it, until you are satisfied that it is not too slow. By the way, if possible do this check on a small less powerful computer. Not everyone has a computer like yours.

3. Make navigation of your site simple and straight forward so your reader will find the content he is looking for easily. You must remember that all users are not computer savvy, so the easier your site is to navigate the better.

4. This really relates to navigation, but make sure your site is built on rudimentary rules of web design like having clear buttons, describing links accurately and displaying links in the conventional blue. This will make sure that users have the least amount of trouble accessing different pages of your site.

An optimum web site brings together a classy look with easy navigation. When a user open up your site, their first impression should be “Wow! What a great site. And then when they start to work their way around your site, they should find it easy to navigate to find what they are looking for.

These elements are the technical aspects of your web site. When you have these covered, you must make sure that your content of your site is of top notch quality. It has to be well written and without grammatical or spelling errors. It is a question of balance. You want to spell out your complete sales pitch, but you want to be concise and not overdo it. So keep in mind that for you to be successful and make money online you need balance. It’s the secret of life.
